Microsoft Teams Troubleshooting for MVD
Fix common issues with Teams in Microsoft Virtual Desktop.
Permissions Setup
On your host machine
- Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera. Set Windows App to On.
- Privacy & security > Microphone. Set Windows App to On.
- Restart the Windows App after changes.
On Microsoft Virtual Desktop
- Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera. Set Microsoft Teams to On.
- Privacy & security > Microphone. Set Microsoft Teams to On.
If still not working
Launch Teams on MVD, then on host: Settings > Privacy & security > Camera/Microphone. Set "Microsoft Teams VDI" or "Microsoft Teams VDI Optimizer" to On.
Audio & Video Issues
Video lag or sound quality
- High latency: check with support.
- Outdated Remote Desktop client: update for optimization.
- Web/iOS/Android clients: no optimization support.
- Use wired headsets — Bluetooth adds latency.
No sound in Teams
- Host: check volume is not muted.
- In Teams (MVD): Settings > Sound Devices — ensure your device is listed.
- Test: play a video at microsoft.com/en-us/insidetrack/videos. If no audio, create a ticket.
Audio device not showing
- Close Remote Desktop.
- Host: Start > Sound Settings > set device as Default.
- Relaunch Remote Desktop and Teams.
Microphone Issues
Microphone not working
- Host: check input is not muted (Settings > System > Sound > input).
- In Teams (MVD): Settings > Sound Devices — ensure your microphone is listed.
- Use "Make a test call" to confirm.
- MVD: Settings > System > Sound > input. Check the activity bar.
Can't use or mute microphone
Settings > Privacy & Security > App Permissions > Microphone. Set all toggles to On and confirm Teams is On.
Microphone device not showing
- Close Remote Desktop.
- Host: Start > Sound Settings > set device as Default.
- Relaunch Remote Desktop and Teams.
Video Issues
- Host: Start > Camera, then Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Camera.
- MVD: Start > Camera, then Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Camera.
- Check Settings > Privacy & security > Camera on both.
- In Teams (MVD): Settings > Camera — verify your camera is listed.
- If the issue persists, create a support ticket.
Login & App Issues
"You Can't Get There from Here" error Sign out of Teams and sign back in. Common after first MVD login with phone authentication.
Teams stuck in login loop Right-click Teams > Log out, then log in normally.
Teams hanging on splash screen
- In MVD, right-click the Teams icon > Quit.
- File Explorer >
%AppData%\Microsoft\Teams> delete all files (not subfolders). - Restart Teams from the Start menu and authenticate.
Teams thinks camera is in use on host Restart Windows Camera Frame Server on the host. Reboot if needed.
Report a Problem to Microsoft
Microsoft Support has asked that MVD Teams users report issues directly to Microsoft in addition to submitting a support ticket.
- In Teams, click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
- Select Feedback from the dropdown.
- Click Report a problem (or press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R).
- In the "What did you dislike?" field, describe the issue. Do not include private or sensitive information.
- Check Include a screenshot if relevant.
- For "Share relevant content samples and additional log files?", select Yes.
- For "May we contact you about your feedback?", select Yes.
- Click Submit.
After submitting
Also create a support ticket with Microsoft Support for tracking and follow-up.
Unsupported Features
Teams on VMs has limitations. Full list: Microsoft Docs.
- Skype for Business: audio only, no video.
- Only one video stream at a time (screen share or speaker).
- No device switching if disconnected.
- Screen sharing: no app sharing, limited control.
